I Missed It!

Twice now, we have given Jamie’s Grandmother an Amaryllis plant kit for Christmas.   Grandma tells me they bloom beautifully, but since I’m not so great with plants I’ve never tried my hand at planting one.  This year my hubby bought me an Amaryllis plant for Christmas too (it was stuffed in my Christmas stocking), and although I was doubtful I could get it to bloom, I planted the bulb on boxing day.  I was so excited when it started growing (it doesn’t take much to make me excited).

A few days ago, as I was doing dishes, I noticed my beautiful little plant was going to bloom any day!

I knew that the next day we would be travelling to Vermilion to visit family, but I was sure my little plant would not chose the only day I wasn’t home to bloom.

I was wrong…..

I came home to this…

Although I missed the petals creeping out, it is beautiful.  I have no idea if I’ll be able to get it to bloom next year so I had to take some pictures of my very first Amaryllis!

February 9, 2009 - 10:05 pm Sarah - I love the colour... and congrats on keeping it alive and getting some gorgeous blooms! You'll notice that there is, literally, ONE plant in our house and Scott's in charge of it. Plants don't yell when they're thirsty/hungry, so I forget about them :)

February 10, 2009 - 7:08 pm Michelle - So pretty Christine. Those pictures should be framed. I'm no good with plants either, but you have me wanting one of those. (Then you can take pictures of it with my camera I don't know how to use :)

February 26, 2009 - 9:15 pm Hope Walls - Sweet! Mine didn't bloom this year....
